For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. (1 Peter 3:5-6)
The figure of wives being in subjection unto their own husbands is never weak. The Bible says they are holy women. Yes, the basis of holy women is started from subjection to husbands. If one is beautiful and lovely but doesn’t obey her husband, she can’t gain the good word of the Lord. She seems like satisfy everything, but in fact, she is having an empty shell.
In the present generation, many people are getting a divorce. Of course, they have their own reasons of divorce, but it isn’t unpardonable to dissolute of marriage for any reason as Christian. If a wife obeys her husband and act wisely, it is impossible to get a divorce. Surely, now we talk about Christian couple. If one of them doesn’t believe the Lord, circumstances beyond their control can com into existence. However, at least in Christian family, a divorce never can happen because God mate them.
The Bible talks about Sara. She called her husband, Abraham, lord. It means that she is his possession, so she didn’t manage or teach her husband, and can obey only him. Also, it means she made herself low to a servant. A servant always pays attention to the order of the master, and has an attitude of submission. We can know that having an attitude of a servant, she always pays attention to the words of Abraham and walks a way of obedience along only her husband.
The thing we must take notice of in here is the attitude of our mind that don’t be afraid of any wonders. Yes, the action of husband cannot but fear, because it is sometimes reckless and unexpected. Sara, also, might feel a fear when Abraham says to go to Canaan. However, she obeyed him without a comment, so she had a son ‘Isaac’, became a mother of gigantic nation, and stand up as the woman of the faithful. It never is easy to obey husbands, but have a mind of submissiveness, please. It is an attitude a wife must have.
