Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. (1 Peter 2:6-8)
It is already recorded in the Bible that Jesus will be a corner stone. As we know, a corner stone is used to build a house as a basis. In this, we can know that the Bible is saying Jesus will be a basis of today’s church. Nowadays, people who believe the fact will keep their presence of mind and accept it very naturally, that is, when we believe Jesus Christ, we will belong a church of the Lord naturally.
The corner stone is very precious to believers but people of disobedience cannot help refusing, because it becomes a basis of their house for believers, but there is no merit of it for people of disobedience. It is very inconvenient to face it according to an intention of an architect. Like this, people reject Jesus Christ because they can’t put to use him at their convenience. Believers must obey only an aim of the Lord, but it is never an easy task to unbelievers because most of them live settling their life by themselves. If they want to worship the Lord, surely they must abandon their own life. Of course, it is a foundation to believe and welcome Jesus.
The same goes for believers. One and all want to live the life of a success, but many of them are living an unsatisfactory life because they don’t understand the basis of their house. Despite their welcome of Jesus, a corner stone, they don’t build a house on the stone. They make an effort to build a house on what they like, but it is so stupid thing. It is important to live to have money, honor, power, and knowledge, but you will have a very hard time if you lean on these things.
Christians ought to put a corner stone in their mind, and build a house on it. In other words, they need a wisdom that bases their life on Jesus Christ and lives according to his words and orders. It must be carried out in a church life. If a church depend on only growth and be run with a way of the world, the church will lost a looks of Lord’s church. If a church knows its appointed task and follows the word of the truth, it is a wise Christian who builds on a corner stone, and an upright looks of Lord’s church. Build a house on a corner stone.
