If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. (1 Peter 4:14)

Who is happy? In the world standard, he is who has a sure means of livelihood, and his everything turns out well. However, we can see that they suffer a severe pain and even commit suicide. On the other side, people who go through material difficulties and are in bad condition say they are happy. Like this, the world standard is wrong.

It is stupid to explain happiness theoretically, because people have different standards of happiness. Some who pursue material think that happiness is to possess much substance, and other who seek knowledge think it is to possess much of it, for sure. Also, honor or power followers say they are happy when achieved their purpose. There is not only someone who is happy due to a harmonious family, but is also other who is unhappy with everything because of insatiable desires. Happiness is decided on their minds.

Then, where is the happiness of Christian from? The Bible says about it clearly because they seek after same thing. What is our goal? It is to live for glory of God. Christians can take a true happiness in it. If someone pursues his own satisfaction and asks for happiness from it, he is never disqualified for Christian.

What is the life for glory of God? The Bible says, ‘blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake (Mat 5:11).’ By the standards of the world, it cannot be happy to be reviled, but it means a special life for Christians. In other words, if you live a humdrum life like others on the planet, you will not be persecuted. However, Christians cannot help avoiding libels.

Look at Noah and Job. They are admitted as righteous persons from all people, but are ridiculed in the process of following words. They, yet, didn’t think they are unhappy, but they are so happy. Yes, for Christians, true happiness is to obey the words of God and to think about glorious times on the life to come in spite of many libels. Now, are you reproached from someone? Then, you are a happy person.
