2 Corinthians 4:13-15 / KJV

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

As we delve into the word of God today, we are reminded of the power of faith and belief. In 2 Corinthians 4:13-15, Paul writes about the spirit of faith that he and his fellow believers possess, a faith that is rooted in the belief that God will raise them up, just as He raised up Jesus. This faith is not just a passive belief, but an active one that compels them to speak, to testify, to proclaim the goodness of God to all who will listen.

Paul cites an Old Testament example of this same spirit of faith in Psalm 116:10, which says, "I believed, therefore have I spoken." The psalmist's faith in God was so strong that it moved him to speak, to declare his trust in God's faithfulness and love. Likewise, Paul and his fellow believers have faith in the promise of resurrection through Jesus Christ, and this faith drives them to speak boldly and confidently about it to others.

But their faith is not just about their own personal salvation. Paul notes that "all things are for your sakes," meaning that everything God does is ultimately for the benefit of His people. The abundant grace that God pours out on us is not just for our own enjoyment, but so that we can give thanks and praise to Him, and so that others can see His glory through our lives.

This idea of our faith being tied to the greater good of the community is a recurring theme throughout the Bible. In James 2:14-17, James reminds us that faith without works is dead. Our faith should lead us to action, to serving others, to doing good works that glorify God and bless those around us.

In Matthew 5:16, Jesus says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Our faith should be visible, not just in our words, but in our actions. When we live out our faith in this way, we become a living testimony to God's goodness and love.

So let us be people of faith, who speak boldly and live boldly for our Lord. Let us trust in His promises and be driven to action by our love for Him and for others. And let us give thanks for the abundant grace that He has poured out on us, knowing that it is not just for our own benefit, but for the glory of God and the good of His people. Amen.
